Water Feature Cleaning in Grand Junction, Colorado
Keep Your Water Features
In Top Condition
Keeping Your Features Pride of Place
Why Cleaning is Essential
A water feature that isn't maintained stops being an asset and starts being a problem. Algae takes over, pumps wear out faster, fish suffer, and what was once the best part of the backyard becomes something you'd rather not look at.
Compass offers cleaning and maintenance for all water features across the Grand Valley; ecosystem ponds, pondless waterfalls, fountainscapes, and features we didn't build.
Every system has different needs depending on its size, type, age, and how it's been cared for. We'll assess yours and put together a plan that fits.
Keeping Your Features Pride of Place
Monthly Maintenance Service
For homeowners who want to hand the whole thing off, we offer ongoing monthly maintenance visits tailored to your specific feature. We handle the routine checks, water treatments, filter cleaning, and seasonal adjustments. You just enjoy the water.
Monthly plans are built around your system, not a one-size-fits-all schedule. A small fountainscape has different needs than a 2,000-gallon koi pond, and we won't charge you for visits or treatments your feature doesn't need.
The Perfect Balance
Pond Water Management
Water chemistry in a high desert climate is its own challenge. Grand Junction's combination of intense sun, low humidity, alkaline water, and significant summer evaporation creates conditions that push ponds harder than most.
Algae blooms can establish fast when temperatures spike in July and August, and mineral buildup from evaporation affects water quality in ways that aren't always obvious until there's a problem.
We use a range of natural, fish-safe treatments to keep your water balanced through the season: beneficial bacteria, algae control products, and water conditioners matched to what your feature actually needs.
We'll also flag anything we notice during a visit that's worth addressing before it becomes a bigger issue.
Preparing Your Feature For Another Year of Tranquility
Spring Cleaning Service
Grand Junction winters are hard on water features. Freeze-thaw cycles stress liners, organic matter accumulates through the cold months, and beneficial bacteria populations crash in the cold and need time to reestablish in spring.
A proper spring cleanout resets the system so everything runs cleanly through summer.
We recommend a full spring clean for every feature, every year; from fountainscape basins to large ecosystem ponds.
The longer you go between cleanouts, the more labour-intensive (and expensive) the eventual clean becomes. Annual cleaning is always cheaper than deferred cleaning.
Spring Cleaning Includes:
- Remove fish (if applicable), drain pond/feature and remove residual debris
- Power wash rocks and gravel
- Clean mechanical filter
- Clean biological filter
- Rinse filter pads
- Skim debris from pond surface
- Top off and detoxify pond water, making it safe for fish and plants
- Reconnect pump, if needed
- Reconnect IonGen System and Automatic Dosing System, if applicable
- Administer recommended treatments
- Hook up or adjust Water Fill Valve
- Cut back necessary pond plants (Additional charge for thinning out)
- Complete pond health assessment with recommended products or enhancements
- Check lights
- Acclimate fish back into water (if applicable)
No Job Is Out of Scope
We Service Features We Didn't Build
If you have a water feature installed by another contractor, or one that came with a property you bought, we'll still service it.
We're familiar with all major systems as a certified aquascape contractor, and we can work with most other configurations as well. If we run into something unusual we'll tell you upfront.

About Compass
We
Know
Water Features
Compass is a certified Aquascape contractor: vetted and trained by the same organization that sets the standard for ecosystem pond installation across North America. Aquascape's certification program requires demonstrated quality of work, ongoing education, and a track record of customer satisfaction. It's not self-awarded, and not every contractor has it.
For Grand Junction homeowners, that credential matters because the Western Slope's climate puts demands on a water feature that generic installation guidance doesn't account for. We know this environment. We build for it.

Your Questions on Water Feature Cleaning Answered
Frequently Asked Questions About Water Feature Cleaning in Western Colorado
How often does my pond need a professional clean?
Once a year as a minimum. Spring is the right time for most ponds in the Western Slope.
Features with heavy fish loads, lots of surrounding trees, or a history of algae problems may benefit from a second mid-season visit.
Do you service pondless waterfalls and fountainscapes too?
Yes. Every water feature benefits from periodic maintenance. Pondless systems and fountainscapes need less attention than ponds, but pump checks, basin cleaning, and seasonal startup and shutdown are worth doing properly.
What if my pond hasn't been cleaned in several years?
We can still help, but be aware that heavily neglected features take more time and materials to restore. We'll assess the current state and give you an honest picture of what's involved before starting any work.
Do I need to be home for the visit?
Not necessarily. For routine maintenance visits, most homeowners give us access and we take care of it. For a full spring, particularly if there are fish to manage, it's useful to be around, or at least reachable.
