Water Feature Renovation in Grand Junction, Colorado

Don't Tear it out
Let Us Fix it

BReathing New Life Into Your water Features

Is Renovation The Right Option?

A lot of properties in the Grand Valley have water features that were built years ago and have either fallen apart, fallen behind, or were never quite right to begin with. Old chemical-dependent ponds.

Concrete features that crack every winter. Pumps from a previous decade running at half capacity. Rock work that looked dated the day it was installed.

Before writing any of it off, it's worth having someone take a look. As a certified Aquascape contractor, Compass renovates existing water features throughout the Grand Junction area ,converting outdated systems, rebuilding what's failed, and turning features that have become a source of frustration back into something worth having.

What we attend to

Most Common Water Feature Renovation Projects

Converting a chemical pond to an ecosystem

Older ponds often rely on algaecides and constant chemical balancing to stay clear. Converting to an Aquascape ecosystem approach; proper biological filtration, aquatic plants, and the right fish load, means the water manages itself. Less work, better results, no chemicals.

Rebuilding failing infrastructure

Aging liners, cracked concrete shells, undersized pumps, and outdated filtration can all be addressed without starting from scratch. We assess what's worth keeping and replace what isn't.

Redesigning the look and feel

Sometimes the bones of a feature are fine but the rock work is poor, the edging is wrong, or the whole thing just doesn't suit the space it's in. We can rework the aesthetic while keeping the underlying system intact.

Upgrading to modern equipment

Older pumps use significantly more electricity than current models. IonGen algae control, automatic dosing systems, and LED lighting are all retrofittable to existing features and meaningfully reduce ongoing maintenance.

Changing the feature type entirely

If an open pond no longer suits your life, young kids, travel schedule, lack of time, we can convert it to a pondless waterfall. The waterfall infrastructure often carries over, and you lose the maintenance without losing the water feature.

We Work With What's There

Every renovation starts with an honest assessment of the existing feature. We'll tell you what's salvageable, what needs replacing, and what the realistic options are, including whether a full rebuild makes more sense than renovation in a particular case.

We won't oversell a renovation if a fresh start is the better answer, and we won't push a full rebuild if the existing feature has good bones.

We work on features we didn't build. If you've bought a property with an existing water feature, or had one installed by another contractor that's now causing problems, we can assess and renovate it.

About Compass

We Know Water Features

Compass is a certified Aquascape contractor: vetted and trained by the same organization that sets the standard for ecosystem pond installation across North America. Aquascape's certification program requires demonstrated quality of work, ongoing education, and a track record of customer satisfaction. It's not self-awarded, and not every contractor has it.

For Grand Junction homeowners, that credential matters because the Western Slope's climate puts demands on a water feature that generic installation guidance doesn't account for. We know this environment. We build for it.  Learn More About Us→

Your Questions on Water Feature Renovations Answered

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Feature Renovations in Western Colorado

  • How do I know if my feature needs renovation or just repair?

Repair addresses a specific failure, such as a dead pump, a liner leak, a broken light. Renovation makes sense when there are multiple issues, when the system was poorly designed from the start, or when you want something that looks and functions meaningfully better than what's there. If you're unsure, an on-site assessment will give you a clear answer.

  • Can you convert my old pond to an ecosystem pond?

Yes. This is one of the most common renovations we do. It typically involves upgrading or replacing the filtration system, adjusting rock and gravel placement to support beneficial bacteria, and establishing the right balance of plants and fish. The result is a pond that maintains itself rather than one you're constantly fighting.

  • Will renovation cost less than a new build?

Usually, but not always. It depends on how much of the existing feature is worth keeping. A pond with a good liner, solid rock work, and a well-placed waterfall might need only mechanical upgrades. A concrete pond with a failing shell might cost more to renovate than to remove and replace. We'll give you an honest comparison.

  • Do you work on features built by other contractors?

Yes. We work on all water features in the Grand Valley regardless of who installed them.
