Outdoor Kitchen Installation in Grand Junction, Colorado
Functional Cooking Space
Right In Your Backyard
An outdoor kitchen should make your space easier to use, not just look good.
Most people don’t realize how much back-and-forth happens when cooking outside until they fix it.
Going in and out of the house, carrying food, forgetting tools, running out of prep space; it adds up quickly. A properly designed outdoor kitchen removes that friction and keeps everything where you need it.
At Compass Outdoor Living, we design and build outdoor kitchens that are built around how you actually cook, host, and use your space, not just something that looks in photos.
Not Just For Looks
Designed for How You Cook and Host
Every outdoor kitchen starts with layout.
It’s not just about fitting in a grill. You need enough prep space, the right flow between cooking and serving, and a layout that doesn’t get crowded when people are around.
We plan for:
- where food is prepped
- where cooking happens
- where people gather
- how everything connects to the rest of your patio
When that’s done right, cooking outside feels natural instead of inconvenient.
Build to Last
Built for Western Colorado Conditions
Outdoor kitchens in Grand Junction deal with a different environment than most places.
Between strong sun, temperature swings, and seasonal weather changes, materials and construction methods matter. Surfaces need to handle heat without fading or cracking, and everything needs to be built in a way that holds up over time.
We design with durability in mind so your kitchen stays functional and doesn’t turn into a maintenance problem after a couple seasons.
More Than a Place to Cook
The Benefits of an Outdoor Kitchen
Less Back and Forth
Everything you need stays outside, which makes cooking smoother and faster.
More Time With Guests
You’re not leaving guests to run inside. Everything happens in one place.
More Usable Space
Turns your patio into a functional extension of your home.
Improved Efficiency
Prep, cook, and serve areas are positioned to work together.
Year-Round Use Potential
With the right setup, you can use the space beyond just summer.
Your Ideal Cooking Space
A Space That Actually Gets Used
The biggest shift with an outdoor kitchen is how often people use their yard.
Instead of cooking inside and stepping out occasionally, everything happens in one place. Meals, conversations, and downtime all stay outside, which makes the space feel more connected and usable day to day. That’s what turns a patio into something you actually spend time in.
Outdoor kitchens can be as simple or as built-out as you want, but most include a combination of cooking, prep, and serving space.
That might include a grill, countertop space, storage, seating, or integration with nearby features like lighting or fire pits. Everything is designed together so the space flows properly and doesn’t feel pieced together.

Your Questions on Outdoor Kitchens Answered
Frequently Asked Questions About Outdoor Kitchen Installations in Western Colorado
Do outdoor kitchens hold up in Western Colorado weather?
They do if they’re built correctly.
Grand Junction has strong sun exposure, temperature swings, and seasonal freeze/thaw cycles. Those conditions can break down poorly built kitchens pretty quickly.
We use materials and construction methods that are suited for this environment, including proper base preparation, weather-resistant surfaces, and layouts that don’t trap water or create long-term issues. When those factors are handled upfront, outdoor kitchens can last for years without major problems.
Do I need gas, water, or electrical for an outdoor kitchen?
It depends on what you want included.
A simple grill setup may only require gas, or even just a propane system. Once you add features like sinks, fridges, or lighting, you’ll likely need water and electrical connections as well.
We plan for utilities during the design phase so everything is routed properly and doesn’t require rework later. Even if you’re not adding everything now, we can design the space so it’s easy to expand in the future.
Can an outdoor kitchen be added to an existing patio?
In many cases, yes, but it depends on the condition and layout of the existing space.
We look at whether the patio can support the added weight, whether there’s enough room for proper spacing, and how the kitchen will connect to the rest of the area. Sometimes small adjustments are needed to make everything work correctly.
The goal is to integrate the kitchen so it feels like part of the original design, not something added afterward.
What size outdoor kitchen do I actually need?
Most people don’t need as much as they think.
The right size comes down to how you cook and how many people you typically host. A well-designed smaller kitchen can be more functional than a large one with poor layout.
We focus on getting the spacing and flow right first, then scaling the design to fit your space and budget without overbuilding.
Can outdoor kitchens be used year-round in Grand Junction?
They can be used for more of the year than most people expect.
Spring through fall is the most active time, but with the right layout, sun exposure, and features like a nearby fire pit or covered area, the space can still be used during cooler months.
It comes down to how the space is positioned and what’s included in the design.
